Average FPS vs 1% Low
Two numbers can describe gaming performance much better than one.
Average FPS
Average FPS is the mean frame rate over the benchmark run. It is useful for comparing overall rendering performance, but it can hide short periods of poor frame delivery.
1% low FPS
The 1% low summarizes performance during the slowest roughly one percent of sampled frames. It is commonly used as an indicator of consistency, although the exact calculation varies between benchmark tools and publications.
Why the gap matters
A system averaging 60 FPS can feel less consistent if its low-percentile performance falls substantially below that level. A smaller gap often indicates steadier frame delivery.
Don't compare blindly
Benchmark methodology, scene, drivers, settings and hardware can change both values. RigMetric therefore does not invent a 1% low when a source has not published one.
How to use the numbers
Use average FPS to understand broad performance and the 1% low to understand consistency. Always check the test configuration before applying a result to your own PC.
