PERFORMANCE GUIDE

What FPS Target Should You Aim For?

There is no single FPS number that makes every game “good.” The useful target depends on the game and the experience you want.

Think about the game

Fast competitive games can benefit from higher frame rates and low latency, while slower single-player experiences can be enjoyable at lower, consistent frame rates.

Consistency matters

A stable frame rate can feel better than a high average that frequently drops. This is why benchmark context and low-percentile performance are useful.

Match the display

A display capable of a higher refresh rate can make higher frame rates useful, provided the PC can actually sustain them.

Don't chase a number blindly

Reducing image quality solely to reach an arbitrary FPS target may not be worth it. A balanced preset with consistent performance can be the better choice.
