DIAGNOSTICS GUIDE

GPU Utilization and FPS

GPU utilization is a clue about workload, not a simple quality score.

High utilization

High GPU utilization often means the GPU is being kept busy. That is normal during a GPU-limited workload and does not by itself indicate a problem.

Low utilization

Low GPU utilization can happen when the CPU, frame-rate cap, synchronization, game engine or another limit prevents the GPU from doing more work.

Don't use one reading alone

Utilization can change from scene to scene. Look at FPS, CPU behaviour, clocks, temperatures and settings together when troubleshooting.

Resolution can reveal a limit

If lowering resolution greatly increases FPS, the GPU may have been the main limit. If FPS barely changes, another constraint may be involved.
