Graphics Settings That Affect FPS
Not every setting costs the same amount of performance. The impact depends heavily on the game engine and hardware.
Resolution and render scale
These directly change how many pixels the GPU must process and can have a large impact when the GPU is the limiting component.
Ray tracing
Ray-traced effects can substantially increase GPU workload in supported games. The cost varies with the effect, quality level and hardware.
Textures
Texture quality primarily changes asset detail and memory use. Its FPS impact can be smaller than resolution or some lighting settings when enough VRAM is available.
Shadows, reflections and effects
These can be expensive depending on the engine. Reducing them can sometimes recover performance while preserving other visual details.
There is no universal ranking
A setting that is expensive in one game may be relatively cheap in another. Use game-specific testing or reliable benchmarks rather than assuming every slider behaves identically.
